Beginner Wheel

Beginners Wheel Term

2 hours x 8 weeks

$420 – 8x 2 hour classes

This 8 week introduction is for the beginner wheel enthusiast.

The two hour classes will teach you the necessary skills to start on the wheel. Wedging, centering, creating vessels and turning. The focus is on technique and creating different shapes. It is structured in 2x 4 week blocks:

  • The first 2 weeks are spend throwing pots
  • 3rd week you’ll be trimming the bottoms of your pots
  • 4th week will be spent glazing
  • 5th week we start the process again working on your throwing technique.
  • You’ll be able to keep 12-16 pots by the end of the 8 weeks

This process is repeated throughout the course. What you learn here will build your confidence so you can move on to the advanced classes to learn more complex forms and decoration. If you have already learned the basics, this is still a good space for you.

All clay, firing and glazing is included in the price.

Because of the structure of the course, if you miss a class, it’s difficult to take a make up class. If you miss the 3rd week for example, your teacher will turn your pots for you to ensure they’ll be dry and bisque fired for the glazing session in the 4th week. No refunds are given for missed classes.

FAQ

Cancellations – You can cancel your term class up to 7 days before the start of term for a full refund. Within 10 days is a 10% cancellation fee. Within 3 days no refunds are given, unless another student is found to replace your space, then only the 10% fee is charged with the rest refunded.

Min Class Size – All wheel classes need a minimum of 4 people in the class in order for the class to proceed. If there are less than 4 people, then we reserve the right to cancel the class and give everyone a refund.

Missing Classes – Separate classes in a term are non-transferable. If you miss a class, you may be able to complete a catchup class in another session if there is space available, but most classes are generally full.

Firing Service – Pieces that are thrown at home and brought into fire must go through the studio ‘Firing Service’ process and be paid for separately. Cost is $10/kg for bisque and $15/kg for glaze firing. We can not guarantee a fast turn around of extra pieces.\

Fair Use – These classes are not intended to be a production space for businesses. They are here for like minded people to connect through the art of pottery. Of course, you are free to sell the pieces you make(and we highly encourage careers in pottery!), but be aware there are a lot of pieces for our team to fire to ensure pottery is ready for students. We will have a chat with you if we feel your output is beyond what we believe to be ‘fair use’.

Teachers – Sometimes teachers become unavailable leading up to or during a term, so we may need to change teachers. We will let you know as soon as we find out.

Parking – For the evening classes you are able to park on West St, but during the day West St is only 1 hour parking. Plenty of day parking can be found on streets off West St. There is no parking available in the lane way down the side of the shop.

Clay – All clay is included for the 2 hours classes. The 3 hour class you must purchase your own clay.

Glazes – All glazes and slips will be supplied.

Firing – Firing is included with course costs.

Registration – Make sure to remember your login and password when you register. All future classes can be booked through that account.
