LEARN WATERCOLOUR

Activate your ceramics

$220 – four session course
Wednesdays 6-8pm – Jan 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th

This class is designed for anyone interested in learning watercolour painting with the goal of translating those skills onto their own ceramic pieces. Whether you’re a potter, a ceramic artist, or simply curious about developing an illustrative decorative style, this course will gently guide you through the foundations of watercolour on paper.

You’ll learn how to control water, mix paints, build tone, and create designs that can later be applied to your ceramic work. With over a decade of teaching experience—including positions in Artest, WEA, Private workshops in Sydney and at the Gosford Gallery—Tania brings clear, supportive instruction to help you grow your skills and creative confidence.

What to Expect

Over the 4-week course, you will:

  • Learn the fundamentals of watercolour painting
  • Understand water control and paint consistency
  • Explore colour mixing and tonal variation
  • Develop simple illustrative designs
  • Create artwork that can be translated onto ceramic surfaces and forms

This short course serves as an introduction to the possibilities of combining watercolour techniques with ceramic decoration.

Pathway to Further Study

These four weeks are a taster for an extended 8-week term-based course beginning in February 2026.
In the longer course, students will work more deeply on developing their personal illustrative style and applying decorative designs directly to their own ceramic pieces. Future terms may also include painting on flat clay surfaces or progressing toward more advanced ceramic decoration as a final goal.
